The Ravenking
He became head of his family and inherited the crown
to the throne of the Firal of North when still extremely young.
A kind man and brave king,
his fear is the very blood coursing through his veins.
The Ailcarrier
A Malcyer born in the Maze-City, the only Rhite dwelling in Runedain. When still a small child she was given to be Ailcarrier to Guldur, their crown-prince, and has been with him since.
The story begins when a family of Firal finds her
on their attempt to take back as many Ailcarriers from their Rhite enslavers.
They soon find that under all the fear in her eyes
lie a kind heart, many cheeky quips and big smiles.
As well as magic their land had yet to see.
The Protector
Elder brother to Thrain, whose father sealed his fate.
It was five years before meeting Rayne when he returned home broken, lost and haunted,
with a fortnight old daughter.
He never let his family carry any of his pain,
always shouldering all his shame and grief alone.
And he remained lost, until five years after he came home.
Crown-prince to the Rhite people
and Rayne's owner.
A villain with a different motive.
Also happens to be standing at 8'2'' of height.
Flairadir, Rayne's shadow and Guldur's younger brother.
He prefers “Adir” to his name in full.
A gentle and quiet young man,
and the sole in his race who is haunted by the nature
of his people and their animalistic ways.
Prince of Norwar, the Firaven Northern Stronghold
and eldest son to Thrain's sister, Nairan.
Brazen and arrogant,
he doesn't take all too kindly to Rayne,
and even less to Adir.
A throwing-daggers master and bickerer-in-chief,
with Ferion at the other end more often than not.
A 6'7'' frame and a yet bigger heart.
He was born on the streets of the Western Stronghold
and was brought to Norwar by Graite's father,
who raised him as a son.
He's haunted by the truth of how he came to be his mother's son
and he sees a soul similar to his in Rayne.
Dain's youngest daughter.
A perceptive five-year-old of ready understanding.
She looks a miniature of her father,
sharing his eyes and the very same wine-red of hair,
yet it's not only in looks how they are one and the same.
Prince of Norwar and younger twin brother to Lir.
A kind young man with a ready smile,
he's an archer of rare skill.
He doesn't much try to bring down his brother's temper,
rather enjoying the harmless quarrels on bouts of warm laughter.
A man of keen intellect and cunning, yet good-natured and open.
The only son to Thrain's Eldest General, he grew up with Thrain as a relation somewhere between uncle and brother and so did Ferion since they were eight years of age.
Now a century later,
he and Ferion still hardly ever leave each other's side.
Thrain's younger sister and mother to Lir and Nalin.
She was sent away to be wed to the king of the Firal of East,
not two years after, she came home with two small sons
and a letter from her new husband to deliver to the Ravenking.
Dain had lost the light from his eyes when he returned after being dismissed by the family of the woman he was forced to marry,
and even while Nairan's were instead as bright as the day she left,
all can tell something terrible must have befallen her,
yet she won't say.
And she only wishes she could.
While the main trio are Thrain, Rayne and Dain
throughout the Heirs saga and the following three series,
Lir, Nalin, Ferion, Graite, Nairan and Dæri are seen just as often while Guldur and Adir are as present but rarely seen instead.
A number of characters met in Book One join the main
only in the second, three of them are Enthil, Yyn and Radaluq
while amongst those introduced in Book Two are
Seinthril, a bounty-hunter of good cheer from the Earth Clan,
his cousin Tairnir, the Clan Chief,
and others, such as the man Nairan had to marry.
In Book Three we meet more who join the main cast, matching
both their relevance to the story and, if we will, "screentime",
Reil, a man from the race of Pelbles, which the world believed to be long lost, Algrin, a small creature to whom his people are drawn to, and Ravast, the last true mage of Runedain.
Glimpses of a good life. Good does not mean easy.
